Africa-Press – Angola. The 10th annual meeting of African Special Economic Zones (SEZs) will take place from the 26th to the 28th of the current month in Luanda, promoted by the African Union (AU) and the Africa Economic Zones Organization (AEZO), in partnership with the Angolan Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The event, which follows the 7th African Union-European Union Summit, which ends this Tuesday in Luanda, will discuss, among other topics, new trends and recent developments in the SEZ ecosystem on the continent.
The participation of 300 delegates and 58 Special Economic Zones, representing 37 countries, is expected.
Among the delegates are decision-makers, operators, experts and international financial institutions, who will exchange experiences on policies for the zones in the context of attracting impacting investment, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Manuel Francisco Pedro.
In a press conference launching the activities, the manager announced that, in parallel with the Annual Meeting, the Sustainable Investment Summit will be held, a pioneering initiative that will focus on the challenges of industrialization and attracting investment to the continent in general, and the country in particular.
According to the Chairman, they plan to showcase success stories and mobilize more resources, at a time when the country has joined the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Free Trade Area.
In turn, the AEZO ́s Secretary-General, Ahmed Bennis AEZO, stated that the SEZ is currently effective as one of the biggest drivers of economic growth in Africa.
He stated that infrastructure development, the creation of new industries, resource utilization and transformation have positioned the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as a central engine of economic development.
The official highlighted the success that the Luanda-Bengo SEZ has achieved in the last five years, whose potential has been sufficient for the country to lead the development of Special Economic Zones on the continent.
