Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan capital is hosting, starting Monday (24), the 7th African Union-European Union Summit to discuss strategies for strengthening the partnership between the two continents, with an emphasis on trade cooperation.

The meeting, which begins with a Business Forum, will bring together more than 42 heads of state and government, as well as senior officials from the African Union Commission (AU), the European Council, the European Commission and the UN.

According to the organizers, participants include 28 heads of state and government and 18 representatives from African countries, as well as 14 European leaders, and representatives from 12 European Union (EU) member states.

The Luanda summit also includes the participation of the president of the African Development Bank and several regional African organizations, thus broadening the multilateral scope of the discussion.

It is expected that, during the two days of work, the summit will produce concrete commitments capable of translating into the desired renewal of relations between Africa and Europe.

The choice of Angola, which holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, reflects the strengthening of its role as a regional mediator and protagonist of an agenda that aims for greater balance in relations between the two organizations.

The presence of the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council gives greater political weight to the event, which seeks to reorient the strategic priorities between the two blocs and cement the long-standing partnership.

For the organization, the registration of more than 500 journalists confirms the global dimension of the event and the centrality of the theme on the international agenda.

To happen under the motto “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism,” the meeting aims to revitalize the AU-EU cooperation framework, at a time marked by geopolitical tension, security challenges in the Sahel, increasing migrations, and pressure to accelerate African industrialization, among other major challenges.

The intention is clear: to redefine a partnership model that values productive investment, stability, and opportunities for African youth, as one of the world’s largest demographic forces.

It is no coincidence that, alongside the High-Level Conference, the program includes a Business Forum, a Youth and Civil Society Forum, and meetings of senior officials, creating a dialogue ecosystem that goes beyond traditional diplomacy.

The last EU-AU Summit took place in February 2022 in Brussels, Belgium, when the parties consolidated a joint vision for a renewed partnership.

The Luanda meeting continues this political exercise and is also based on the results of the ministerial meeting in May 2025, in which ministers reinforced their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, anchored in shared values, converging interests, and an agenda of sustainable growth and stability for both continents.
