Africa-Press – Angola. While not yet officially confirmed, Mercado understands that the Chinese President may be in Luanda before Christmas.
This is not the first time President João Lourenço and his Chinese counterpart have met, nor is it the first time Xi Jinping has visited Angola.
In March 2024, during a meeting in Beijing, João Lourenço formally invited Xi Jinping to make an official visit to Angola, an invitation that was accepted, with the date to be determined through diplomatic channels.
Xi Jinping previously visited Angola in 2010, when he was still Vice-President of the People’s Republic of China, on an official trip of approximately two days to Luanda, where he was received by then-President José Eduardo dos Santos.Without official confirmation from the Presidency of the Republic, Mercado has learned from various sources—including official sources—that the visit should take place “soon.”
There was speculation that President Xi Jinping might be in Angola for the main event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Independence (November 11th), which did not materialize, but he may be in Luanda before Christmas.
