Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmem do Sacramento Neto, reaffirmed on Saturday, in Luanda, the increase in actions to strengthen, in 2026, the planning of the coastline, inspection and combating illegal, undeclared and unregulated fishing.
According to the Minister, this aims to guarantee the sustainability of marine ecosystems and increase the sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Minister was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony to present year-end greetings to the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, who on the occasion was flanked by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.
According to Carmem do Sacramento Neto, ongoing public policies in the fisheries and marine resources sector are focused on consolidating transparency, the legal framework for ecosystems and their sustainable use, involving all actors operating at sea.
“For next year, the main perspective is the planning and ordering of the coastline, in conjunction with all stakeholders in the sector, which will allow for greater awareness, more supervision and a significant reduction in illegal fishing”, she highlighted.
The Minister highlighted that, in parallel with strengthening the control and organization of fishing activity, the Government intends to ensure that the population continues to have regular access to fish and other seafood products, despite seasonal restrictions on the capture of some species, such as horse mackerel, in the months of June, July and August.
Among the main challenges to be overcome in 2026, he highlighted the need for greater awareness among artisanal fishermen and the alignment of semi-industrial fishing with the areas and rules defined by the sector’s legislative package, aiming for the responsible exploitation of marine resources.
“We want a more mature fishing sector, with clear marketing rules and with fish available throughout the year”, she stated, adding that the objective is to make next year “more organized and with fewer constraints” than the one that is now ending.
The Head of State, João Lourenço, flanked by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, received, at the Protocol Complex of the Presidency of the Republic, in Luanda, the traditional end-of-year greetings from political figures and representatives of civil society.
The ceremony, which is part of the Head of State’s institutional calendar, brought together government officials, party leaders, authorities from defense and security bodies, as well as personalities from different sectors of Angolan society, in a moment of celebration and assessment of the year that is ending.
