Africa-Press – Angola. Angola will accelerate, in 2026, the implementation of the “Transforma Aqui” program, with a view to strengthening the national manufacturing industry, consolidating food self-sufficiency and diversifying exports the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, said, on Saturday.

The official was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the traditional ceremony to present year-end greetings to the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, an event that took place at the Protocol Complex of the Presidency of the Republic, in Luanda.

According to Rui Miguêns, who has led the Ministry of Industry and Commerce since July 2023, the “Transforma Aqui” program is aimed at installing small industries close to agricultural production areas, in order to add value to national products and reduce post-harvest losses.

However, it recognizes that its implementation has not yet reached the necessary scale in view of the increase in agricultural production.

“We have registered significant growth in national production and we now need to accelerate our pace, especially in 2026, to transform what we are already producing”, he highlighted.

In assessing the sector, the minister considered that industry and commerce have played an essential role in economic growth, macro-economic stability and the advancement of food self-sufficiency, defending, however, the need to consolidate the gains achieved.

Regarding the main challenges for 2026, Rui Miguêns pointed out as priorities the nationalization of the production of consumer goods, the local transformation of mineral products and other strategic resources and the reduction of dependence on the export of raw materials.

“The big challenge is to diversify our exports and start exporting more and more finished products, instead of just primary products”, he stated, reiterating the Executive’s commitment to sustainable and competitive industrial development.

On Saturday, the Head of State, João Lourenço, flanked by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, received traditional end-of-year greetings from political figures and representatives of civil society at the Protocol Complex of the Presidency of the Republic, in Luanda.

The ceremony, which is part of the Head of State’s institutional calendar, brings together government officials, party leaders, authorities from defense and security bodies, as well as personalities from different sectors of Angolan society, in a moment of fraternization and assessment of the year that is ending.

The event, which took place in a protocol and symbolic environment, culminated in a celebration dinner accompanied by a cultural musician session, with the presence of several local musical artists.
