Africa-Press – Angola. Maintaining oil production in the country above one million barrels per day remains a priority for the Angolan government for the year 2026, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, reaffirmed on Monday in Luanda.

In statements to the press, at the end of the ministry’s year-end greetings ceremony, the Minister also pointed to the continued execution of refining, distribution and fuel storage projects as targets for the coming year.

On the other hand, the Minister also highlighted the increase in diamond and gold production and the start of production of other minerals that are established in the program of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, with a view to achieving the targets defined in the National Development Plan.

He emphasized that the sector already uses Artificial Intelligence to optimize operations, adding that there is already a project from his department on this matter.

When asked about the possibility of dispersing part of the capital of Sonangol and Endiama in 2026, Diamantino Azevedo said that it will be difficult, due to endogenous and exogenous situations that have made it impossible to complete the restructuring process of these two companies to take them public.

The year-end greeting ceremony was preceded by the XI Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas (MIREMPET), which took place under the motto “Structuring projects of the sector: current status and challenges”.

The meeting’s main objective was the analysis of strategic matters for the sector, with emphasis on the status of structuring projects in the mining and oil segments, including those completed in the current five-year period and those that are in the execution phase.
