Africa-Press – Angola. The National Diamond Trading Company of Angola (SODIAM-EP) invested approximately USD 1.3 million in the renovation and modernization of a 13 classroom school in the municipality of Dundo, north-eastern Lunda-Norte Province.
The school, inaugurated on Thursday by the provincial governor, Filomena Miza, is located in an area of 2,800 square meters and has the capacity to accommodate 1,300 students in two shifts.
In addition to the renovation and modernization that took 12 months, the infrastructure benefited from a computer lab equipped with new computers to promote digital literacy, an administrative area and new sanitary facilities.
The project is the result of institutional cooperation between the ministry of Education and the ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas and was fully funded by SODIAM-EP, within the framework of the social responsibilities of companies in the diamond subsector.
At the time, Governor Filomena Miza stated that the inauguration was in line with the local government’s commitment to humanizing public services and investing in human capital.
She added that SODIAM’s investment demonstrates the effectiveness of attracting revenue from mineral resources for the well-being of local communities.
In addition to this school, the company is funding the construction of an Agricultural Technical Institute in the municipality of Lóvua, designed to include 16 classrooms, an auditorium for 150 people, a multi-sports court, and a cafeteria.
However, as part of a partnership between the local government and the Ministry of Education, another 20 schools are being rehabilitated in Dundo, with prospects of the project extending to other municipalities.
The province currently has 213 schools, with a total of 1,875 classrooms, with a team of 6,415 people, including 5,543 teachers.
