Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda won convincingly against 1o de Agosto by 106-70, in the classic match of the National Senior Men’s Basketball Championship, Group A, played on Friday (06) at the Cidadela Desportiva pavilion in the country’s capital.
With this victory, Petro de Luanda consolidate their lead in Group A, now totaling 10 points.
From the match’s Kick off, Petro adopted a dynamic game, channeling a large part of their offensive plays to forward Milton Valente, who fearlessly assumed responsibility and fulfilled expectations.
The 26-year-old athlete, from their eternal rival, was one of the key figures in the comfortable victory, with whom he has a contract signed at the end of 2025.
In an attempt to stop the opponent’s offensive momentum, 1o de Agosto coach, Lazare Adingono, opted for a zone defense. Even so, Petro took the lead in the 1st quarter, 29-24.
In the 2nd period, 1o de Agosto, with a team committing fewer fouls, still tried to reduce the difference on the scoreboard, but the defending champions maintained their effectiveness in the outside game. Glofate Buiamba led the Petro de Luanda team until halftime, setting the score at 55-33.
In the 2nd half, 1o de Agosto played without a natural point guard on the court, a situation that allowed the opposing point guard, Childe Dundão, to attack the basket easily and almost always without opposition.
With a team that was not very productive, 1o de Agosto lost the period again, seeing the score widen to 83-51.
The last quarter served only for the Petro de Luanda coach, Sérgio Valdeolmillos, to manage the units on the court, at a time when the victory was already achieved.
Petro de Luanda point guard, Childe Dundão, was the top scorer of the game, with 20 points.
It should be recalled that, during the regular season of the competition, 1o de Agosto had defeated Petro de Luanda 79-75, in a match played at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion.
