Africa-Press – Angola. The director-general of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Joel Futi, announced on Thursday that approximately 51.7 percent of Uige’s population lives in urban areas, totaling 2.17 million inhabitants.
Speaking at the release of the final data from the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, he revealed that men account for 49.6 percent of the total population, while women represent 50.4 percent.
He reported that the provincial capital is the most populous municipality with 773,000 inhabitants, while Kipedro is the least populous town with 7,524 inhabitants and that the results of the 2024 census show that the province has 456 households, most of which are headed by men between the ages of 25 and 35.
Futi added that the population of Uige is predominantly young, with an average age of 22, the urban population averages 21, while the rural population averages 23.
He also noted that with the final data released, Uíge is now the seventh most populous region in the country, accounting for 5.5 per cent of the national population.
Futi also clarified that the population of the province has increased by around 535,000 people over the last 10 years, corresponding to an average annual growth rate of 3.1%.
He recalled that the results of the 2024 Census were produced with a high degree of technical and scientific rigor, in accordance with international methodologies and best practices recommended by the United Nations.
