Angola Produces over 51,000 Tons of Rice Annually

Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Office of Studies, Planning and Statistics (GEPE) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Anderson Jerónimo, highlighted on Thursday (19) in Luanda that rice production in Angola has shown a growing trend over the last four years, reaching over 51,000 tons annually, compared to approximately 14,500 tons registered back in 2020.

Despite the increase in production, consumption of this cereal in the country is still above the amount cultivated, with an estimated need of around 500,000 tons per year.

In statements to the press, on the sidelines of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MINAGRIF), Anderson Jerónimo said that the growth in rice production in the aforementioned period had a significant contribution from the private business sector, which represented 71.9% of the total produced.

He emphasized that Angola went from producing around 10,000 tons/year to more than 51,000 tons in 2025, in a very short period, thanks to the commitment of both business and family producers, a fact that reduces the level of imports of this essential product.

Anderson Jerónimo also considered the last agricultural campaign positive, as there was a trend of progressive increase in production in the different segments, where family farming dominates with 86% of the total production of about 30 million tons of various goods, an increase of 8.6%.

He recalled that a high number of agricultural activities are still carried out manually, mainly by families, with only 6% being mechanized, 28% by animal traction or small work tools.
