Africa-Press – Angola. A Public-Private Cooperation protocol for the development of tourism in the country was signed in Luanda between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola (AMCHAM).

The document was signed by the UNDP representative in Angola, Denise Antonio, and the Chair of AMCHAM, Pedro Godinho, in the presence of the minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel.

In her speech, the UNDP representative in Angola stated that working with the private sector is fundamental because it brings not only financing but also experience, innovation, quality standards, and access to markets.

She considered interaction with the Ministry of Tourism essential because the Government defines the direction and creates a favorable environment, emphasizing that when these elements align and communities are part of the process, tourism can become one of the smartest and most resilient investments a country can make.

Denise António emphasized that the aim is to contribute to strengthening the conditions that allow the sector to grow sustainably and competitively, an environment that supports responsible investment, encourages entrepreneurship and improves the quality of services.

“We want to do this inclusively, particularly for young people and women, and for communities beyond the main urban centers. One of the concrete initiatives we are promoting together is the historical transatlantic slave route — Massangano”, she said.

In turn, the AMCHAM Chair, Pedro Godinho, stressed that the signing of the protocol takes place at a time when the country is at a decisive moment, because the predominance of oil, which for decades has driven national economic growth, is facing an unavoidable global transition.

The businessman considered that diversification has ceased to be an ambition, becoming a strategic need.

He highlighted the fact that Angola has extraordinary assets, unique landscapes, unparalleled biodiversity, authentic cultural heritage, and a rich history that sets the country apart in the regional and international context.

The signing ceremony was attended by various personalities, notably the former Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito Sousa, the UNDP resident representative in Angola, Denise António, and the president of AMCHAM, Pedro Godinho.

AMCHAM Angola (American Chamber of Commerce in Angola) is a non-profit organization, affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, that promotes trade and investment between the United States and Angola.
