Africa-Press – Angola. The minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, considered on Monday (23), the process of replacing weapons of war used by security companies, carried out by the sector he leads, fundamental for the consolidation of common well-being and social stability in the country.

The minister was speaking during the closing ceremony of the process of replacing weapons of war in the possession of Private Security Companies and their subsequent delivery to the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).

On the occasion, he stated that the measure represents a firm and executive political decision, anchored in a strategic vision of internal security that places the protection of life, legality and social peace at the center of government action.

According to Manuel Homem, 35,656 weapons of war, along with tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition and military accessories, were collected and removed from the private security circuit and are now under the exclusive control of the State’s defense and security forces.

The minister highlighted that this action constitutes one of the largest reorganization and control operations of weaponry in the private security sector ever carried out in Angola, reinforcing the State’s authority in the area of the legitimate use of force.

He also guaranteed that the weapons collected were replaced by means and equipment compatible with the legal nature of the functions of private security companies, ensuring the continuity of services provided, without compromising the principle that the use of weapons of war is the exclusive prerogative of the defense and security forces.

Manuel Homem reaffirmed the commitment of the ministry and other defense and security agencies to continue with actions that consolidate internal security, warning that there will be no tolerance for the illegal use of weapons of war, violent crimes, and any attacks on public peace and tranquility.

In turn, the Secretary of State for the Military Industry, Afonso Neto, considered that the initiative led by the Ministry of the Interior, in coordination with other bodies, represents a firm step in consolidating the National Security System.

He also appealed to representatives of private security companies to continue to collaborate with the authorities, in strict compliance with the legislation in force.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of National Defense, general officers and commissioners, as well as representatives of private security companies and self-protection systems.
