Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan capital is preparing to host, on April 4th of the current year, the 5th Edition of the International Half Marathon, an event that aims to celebrate the date of definitive peace in the country and establish the province of Luanda on the international road race circuit.

The promoter of the initiative, Carlos Rosa, informed on Monday (23) that the competition intends to celebrate an event of transcendental importance for all Angolans, symbolizing the consolidation of peace and national unity through sport.

Like other capitals around the world, Luanda is now part of the range of cities that organize an international half marathon, reinforcing its position in the global athletic landscape.

The event is included in the international calendar of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the governing body for road races held worldwide.

According to the source, the 2026’s Edition features athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Bahrain, Eritrea, and Somalia, countries with a strong tradition in long-distance and middle-distance running, which raises the competitive level of the event.

In the 4th Edition, held in 2025, Angolan Jeremias Kandumbo was the winner in the men’s category, while Ethiopian Medant Feyera Gurmesa triumphed in the women’s category.

Alongside the half-marathon, a five-km race will be held, of a non-competitive nature, open to the participation of families, promoting social inclusion and intergenerational interaction.

The signing of the definitive peace in Angola took place on April 4, 2002, with the celebration of the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, in the province of Moxico.
