Africa-Press – Angola. The archdiocesan assistant of the Catholic Scouts in Huambo Province, Father Analtino Canguya, appealed on Sunday to the members of the movement to strengthen the promotion of peaceful coexistence in communities in light of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The appeal was made during the closing ceremony of the Scouting journey, which has been taking place since the beginning of January in honor of Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell (BP), the founder of the movement.

Father Canguya stated that the mission of Scouting is to contribute to the construction of stable, peaceful and inclusive communities where dignity, respect and solidarity can prevail.

He said that the movement should play an active role in community life, guided by faith, charity and good works, in families, at school, at work and in society in general.

The religious leader recalled that scouting has historically played a significant role in the moral and civic formation of young people by transmitting values and positive examples from generation to generation.

Despite the event’s conclusion, he emphasised that the scouting year continues, underscoring the importance of deepening knowledge of Christ and strengthening Christian life within communities.

Regarding Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the country, Father Analtino Canguya appealed for increased cooperation and active participation in groups at archdiocesan and national levels to ensure organisation, civility, and a spirit of communion during the event.

Scouting was founded by British Army officer Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell at the beginning of the 20th century. It is based on the principles of discipline, service, moral education, citizenship and the integral development of young people.

It has become one of the world’s largest youth movements, present in various countries and religious denominations, including Catholic scouting, which incorporates faith in Jesus Christ into its mission of serving and bearing witness to the Gospel.
