Africa-Press – Angola. At least 96 new health specialists in various fields completed on Tuesday a specialized technical training course in the Icolo e Bengo province, promoted by the Health Ministry (MINSA).
The Implementation Unit of the Human Resources Training Project for Universal Health Coverage (UIP-PFRHS) ran the one-year training course, which covered doctors from 15 provinces. The course aimed to strengthen the technical and care capacity of the National Health System.
The specialists include 10 anesthesiologists and resuscitators, one general surgeon, one dermatologist, three pediatric surgeons, nine gynecologists and obstetricians, one vascular surgeon, and three dermatologists.
It also include seven general and family medicine doctors, eight intensive care doctors, four neurologists, ten internal medicine doctors, one neurosurgeon, eight ophthalmologists, and six orthopedic surgeons.
Additionally, the new specialists include 18 pediatricians, five psychiatrists, three urologists, and one pulmonologist.
The provinces represented include Luanda, Bengo, Huambo, Benguela, Cuanza Norte, Cunene, Huíla, Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Moxico, Uíge, Zaire, and Icolo e Bengo, given the strategic importance of the initiative for the country’s health sector.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, the country currently has around 10,000 doctors.
