Africa-Press – Angola. The newly hired national football team coach, Aliou Cissé, intends to make history in Angola during his four-year contract with the Angolan Football Federation (FAF).
In brief remarks at his presentation ceremony, the 50-year-old Senegalese, with some emotion, stated that he brings many ambitions to the Sable Antelopes (Angola’s national team), which in his view has very high-quality players, and that together they can project the Angolan nation to other stages.
On the occasion, he thanked the FAF for the trust placed on him and expressed his great honor to the people of Angola, a country he considered with a tradition in football.
According to FAF, the 2021 African Champion with his country’s national team will speak to Angolan journalists very soon in a press conference.
Aliou Cissé is the 37th coach to lead the Palancas Negras (Sable Antelopes), and the only one to have won an African Cup of Nations (AFCON), namely with Senegal in the 2021 edition.
The coach led the Senegalese national team for 9 years (2015-2024), winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and finishing as a runner-up in the 2019 Edition in Egypt. He managed a total of 96 games, including two World Cup appearances (2018 and 2022).
He coached the under-23 team before taking over the senior team, where he also worked as an assistant to Frenchman Alain Giresse.
As a player, Cissé captained the Senegalese national team in 2002, the year the team reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in its history.
Throughout his career, he played for several clubs in different leagues, most notably PSG and Lille in France, as well as Portsmouth and Birmingham in England, gaining experience, maturity, and leadership skills.
