Africa-Press – Angola. A collection of poems by writers members of the Union of Angolan Writers entitled “100 poems for Agostinho Neto” was released this Friday in Luanda.

The work, which has the contribution of 27 poets, is a poetic speech in honor of Agostinho Neto and revolves around the appreciation of cultural aspects of Angola.

The launch of the work, with 100 poems, took place at Memorial Dr. Agostinho Neto and was part of the activities commemorating the Day of Culture, celebrated on the 8th of January.

At the launch ceremony, the PCA of the Memorial, António Fonseca, said that the purpose of the event is to honor the historical, cultural and literary legacy of Agostinho Neto.

“It is very important for the book to be part of the education system, in order to encourage the new generations to enjoy reading,” he said.

In turn, the president of the Sagrada Esperança Foundation, Roberto de Almeida, said that the homage is very significant, as it brought together several writers and poets.

With two poems in the book, Roberto de Almeida underlined that the tributes to the first Angolan president, Agostinho Neto, will continue as long as Angola exists.

António Agostinho Neto was born on September 17, 1922, in Kaxicane (Icolo e Bengo), and died on September 10, 1979.

As the first President of Angola, he proclaimed the country’s independence from the then Portuguese colonial yoke, on November 11, 1975.
