Academic Calls for Seriousness in the Application of US Investment

Africa-Press – Angola. International relations specialist Job Upale on Thursday in Lubango, Huíla, that US investments in Angola can create robustness in the country’s economy, if they are articulated cautiously.

Following the visit of the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, to Angola, as part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, the university professor should identify and combat possible external factors that may create problems for investment, avoiding a repeat of what happened with the Chinese loan.

He detailed that the Lobito Corridor project is old, because England intended to make this connection, so this investment will allow for a less expensive connection between the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic.

According to the source, being in the Atlantic, Angola is closer to America and Europe, which could then create a ‘strong’ competitiveness with China, which has a considerable presence throughout the African continent.

For the academic, this investment is good, because it needs to generate jobs and create infrastructures that can contribute to the General State Budget (OGE) having other sources of revenue collection.

He said that in addition to knowledge, there is a lack of investment in the country that results in the strengthening of public or private companies, but essentially those that will work along the entire branch and may also attract other large investments.

The Lobito Corridor comprises a railway line that connects Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia, allowing the transport of minerals and raw materials to global markets.

With private management for a period of 30 years, through the consortium ‘Lobito Atlantic RailWay’, formed by the companies Victuris, Transfigura and Mota Engil, the Corridor integrates the Port, the Mining Terminal, the Port, Catumbela International Airport and the Benguela Railway, whose line extends for one thousand 344 kilometers in length to Luau, in Moxico province.

In this context, the Government is already planning the construction of a 259-kilometre long line, which will connect the country to Zambia, starting from the municipality of Luacano, in Moxico to the Zambian border region of Jimbe.
