Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan academic Yambo Nito considered, this Thursday, the transmission to children of knowledge about the national liberation struggle and, in particular, the 4th of February 1961, as fundamental.

This is the date that marks the beginning of the national liberation struggle that culminated in the proclamation of national independence, on November 11, 1975.

Speaking at a lecture on the date, the academic underlined the importance of children getting to know the country’s history better, in addition to being encouraged about the ideals of patriotism.

According to the speaker, patriotism is a feeling of pride, love, devotion and respect for the national symbol, which everyone has a duty to honor, since it represents the country’s identity.

He said that being a patriot means having dignified conduct, contributing to the preservation of peace and public goods that the Executive has been making available to the population.

On the other hand, the assistant municipal administrator for the Social and Political Area of the Administration of Saurimo, Francisca Maganda, said that it is essential that students are enlightened, so that they learn to deal with the reality of our history.

Francisca Maganda recalled that young people will continue the deeds of our elders.

On the other hand, as part of the February 4th festivities, the Government of Lunda Sul plans to inaugurate schools, an oxygen factory, a clinical analysis laboratory and a radio debate on the date.

On February 4, 1961, Angolan patriots armed with machetes launched an attack on the São Paulo jail and the Casa de Reclusão, in Luanda, with the aim of freeing the unjustly imprisoned politicians.

The action gave rise to the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, which culminated in the proclamation of National Independence on November 11, 1975.
