Africa-Press – Angola. The ACT team from Luanda revalidated, this Friday, in the city of Sumbe, Cuanza Sul province, the title of national cycling champion, after winning the time trial, with a time of 54 minutes and seven seconds.
In a journey of 37 kilometres, between Cuacra and the Cuanza Sul Cement Factory, the second position went to the Jair Transportes de Benguela team, with 54 minutes and 58 seconds, and the third to Bai Sicasal Petro de Luanda (55 minutes and 20 seconds).
At the end of the race, the sports director of ACT, Ivo Cunha, praised the efforts of the athletes in revalidating the national title, stressing that the objective of the first stage was achieved.
“We will continue to work so that the two remaining stages can also be won by the team, taking into account that the objective is to win the national championship”, he said.
The 32nd national cycling championship is being contested in three stages, the first being a team time trial, played yesterday, the second an individual time trial (19 kilometres), taking place on Saturday, and the third of 130 km, by road (Sunday).
202 cyclists from the provinces of Cuanza Sul, Benguela, Luanda, Bengo, Huíla, Cabinda, Bié, Huambo and Uíge are taking part in the competition.
The championship is organized by the Angolan Cycling Federation (FACI), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Cuanza Sul.
The last edition of the national championship was won by cyclist Dário António from the ACT team in Luanda.
