Africa-Press – Angola. The municipality of Mungo, Huambo province, benefited, in 2022, from various socio-economic infrastructures, including schools and health posts, financed by the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) and the Combating Poverty programme.

The fact was highlighted today by the administrator of Mungo municipality, Domingos Pascoal Calei, on the socio-economic situation of the municipality, whose town is 130 kilometers north of the city of Huambo.

Without presenting numbers of school and health infrastructure completed this year, he said that the municipality currently has 41 schools and 11 health units, including the reference municipal hospital, with capacity for 43 beds.

Also within the scope of the PIIM and the fight against poverty, according to the municipal manager, 50 kilometers of roads were leveled and several bridges were rehabilitated, which are making traffic more fluid between the countryside and the city, in addition to restoring the joy of peasants, above all, with the facilitated disposal of products.

He referred that the implementation of these actions is allowing the improvement of the citizens’ quality of life and, at the same time, facilitating the interaction between the citizens, due to the distribution of social facilities, recovery of secondary and tertiary roads, bridges and bridges and improvement of energy and water supply.

Domingos Pascoal Calei said that one of the challenges for the Municipal Administration of Mungo for 2023 is essentially to continue to develop the happiness of peasants, with the rehabilitation of roads and bridges, as well as encouraging peasants with easy access to fertilizers and production equipment agricultural.

According to the administrator, by the end of the first half of 2023, seven health posts are expected to be completed, four of which are under construction with funds from the Integrated Intervention Plan for Municipalities (PIIM) and three from Combating Poverty, with the objective of bringing medical services/medicines to the population that still continues to travel long distances in search of clinical care.

Likewise, he said, the local authorities envisage the completion and delivery to the population of three schools with seven classrooms, being implemented within the scope of the PIIM, with a view to improving the quality of teaching/learning of hundreds of children who attend classes in inappropriate places, in addition to allowing the insertion of others in the teaching/educational system.

The person in charge said that the infrastructures, with a very accelerated degree of execution, are waiting for finishing works and the respective equipment.

He made it known that more than 30,000 needy households were registered and supported by the Social Protection Strengthening Program (Kwenda), while hundreds of other peasant families learn, on a daily basis, new agricultural production techniques, with the insertion of several field schools , under the MOSAP II project.

Alongside these projects, Domingos Pascoal Calei said that one of the main bets of the local authorities will continue to consist in the academic and technical-professional training of young people, at a time when several citizens are studying in the most diverse institutions of public higher education and private sector in the province of Huambo, with a focus on promoting the socio-economic development of the municipality.

With an area of ​​five thousand square kilometers, the municipality of Mungo, one of the 11 that make up the province of Huambo, has an estimated population of 148 thousand 516 inhabitants, spread over the communes of Cambuengo and Sede, according to recent data from the National Institute of Statistic.
