Africa-Press – Angola. The Bishop of the Tocoista church, Dom Afonso Nunes, highlighted sunday, in Luanda, the importance of national languages as an element of ethnolinguistic cultural identity of each people, instrument of education and socialization.

The religious said that it is necessary for civil society organizations to support the Government in the enhancement, preservation and dissemination of national languages.

In the homily, Afonso Nunes recognized the effort of former president Agostinho Neto in the process of rescuing the national languages, an action that was not successful, according to him, due to his death, a fact that led to the decline of the mother tongue in the country.

For the Bishop, the national languages should be part of the school curriculum in primary education, allowing manuals to be written in the mother tongue, according to the reality of each region and its cultural specificity.

“Diversity is a wealth and each one’s region must be respected, only then will we have a strong and economically prosperous culture”, he said.

The service in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the death of the patron of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World, Simão Gonçalves Toco, was held in parallel with a solidarity lunch that brought together close to one hundred thousand Tocoistas faithful and vulnerable families to celebrate, as well , the passage of the year.

This is the first solidarity event of its kind, characterized by a climate of peace, friendship and joy that brought together people of different ages.

With a varied menu of national dishes and beyond, more than three thousand men and women were assigned to serve the guests.

Speaking to the press, Dom Afonso Nunes, said that the solidarity gesture that the Church provided, marks the social doctrine, by which the church was created, which is to help the poor.

The Religious was pleased to help people toast New Year’s Eve with joy and love.

“All those who came will leave satisfied because all the conditions are created, and I will be present to accompany until the last person is served”, he said.
