African Book Biennial postponed until next May

Africa-Press – Angola. The first African Book Biennial, previously scheduled to take place between the 4th and 16th of this month, in the city of Huambo, was postponed until next May, by the organizers, who report technical problems with the event location.

In a press release sent this Friday, the organization says it is with “great regret” that it announces the postponement of the African Book Biennial, reserved for writers, publishers, actors, artists, public and private institutions.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the control of the organization, related to technical problems at the location of the activity, planned for the “Manuel Rui Monteiro” Cultural Center, located in the province of Huambo, it will not be possible to hold the event, as per planned.

According to the document, the postponement of the activity, which should take place from the 17th to the 29th of May, in the city of Huambo, has nothing to do with the organization, both national and international, as it is deeply committed to quality and integrity of the Biennale.

Under the motto “An Africa in peace and without war”, the event, an initiative of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was expected to bring together more than 200 cultural agents and personalities from Africa, America and Europe.

“We sincerely apologize to the delegations from South Africa, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Conakry, Mozambique, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, Portugal, São Tomé and Zimbabwe, who have already been in Luanda (the country’s capital) since the day March 28th last. Therefore, we thank our customers, friends, sponsors and all world art, African and Angolan, in particular, for their understanding”, says the statement.

Remember that the event was expected to address topics such as “Technological diversity and inclusive literature, for a united Africa without war” and “Artificial intelligence”, in addition to bringing together, in one place, theater, dance, music makers , artists and other performing arts from Africa, Europe and America.

It would also feature interactive spaces, such as the “Café Literário”, which will invite renowned African and Brazilian authors, writers and singers, who should address current affairs.

The Book Biennial is a literary and cultural event that takes place every two years and brings together publishers, exhibitors and various professionals, such as authors and illustrators.

The focus of this type of event is books and also artists, who share their stories, trajectories and creations.
