Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, was satisfied this Monday with the deforestation and demining processes on the Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga section, which have already covered the clarification of 50 kilometers and 450 meters, in a space of one million, 453 thousand and 500 square meters.

José Martins expressed this satisfaction during the visit to verify the work in the town of Lievela, municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, and witness the transfer of the machines involved in the process to the Mavinga side.

The governor argued that the completion of the 202-kilometer section, from Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga, on the National Road (EN 280), appears to be of capital importance, aiming at the mobility of people and resources and the contribution of infrastructures, within the scope of the administrative division.

Therefore, he urged the work team of the National Demining Center and Military Engineering brigades, the latter assigned to the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), to continue with the same dynamism in carrying out the mission, with a view to completing the project on time. foreseen.

“It can be seen that the process is positive, if we look at the time since work began, which will guarantee the construction of the Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga road.

For José Martins, the construction of the road will provide the desired development in that region of eastern Cuando Cubango, through the circulation of people and goods, permanent commercial exchanges between Angolans and Zambians, also taking into account the Mavinga/Rivungo section, in border region with Zambia.

He also pointed out as benefits the effective increase in the flow of tourists in Cuando Cubango, since the road gives access to the Luengue-Luiana national park, connecting the Mucusso area, municipality of Dirico.

He recalled that the Administrative Division Law will soon be approved, in which the headquarters of Mavinga will be the capital of the province of Cubango, hence the importance of the corridor, which will allow for the speedy construction of the city of Mavinga and the communal headquarters, which will be elevated to municipalities.

For his part, the head of the brigade at the National Demining Center in Cuando Cubango, Quiwila Pedro, reported that 32 people were involved in the work.

The demining process allowed the removal of an anti-tank mine, an equal number of anti-personnel mines, nine streams of different calibers, 1242 different ammunition, the removal of 89 thousand 563 pieces of metal, a process that is carried out by six heavy vehicles and four light vehicles.

Two FV33 machines, two other FVA 30s and a “Mine Wolf01” are part of the demining.

It should be noted that the demining work on the 202 kilometers began in November 2023, and is expected to be completed in August of this year.

Cuando Cubango has a road network of more than four thousand kilometers of roads, but only 500 of these are paved, specifically Menongue/Caiundo, EN 140, Menongue/Cuchi (EN 280) and Menongue/Cuito Cuanavale (280).
