AGT seizes accounts of 37 companies for tax evasion

Africa-Press – Angola. Thirty-seven (37) companies in the province of Huíla have their bank accounts seized, at the request of the General Tax Administration (AGT), due to tax non-compliance, with debts reaching up to 26 million kwanzas.

The information was provided Tuesday, by the delegate of the Industrial Association of Angola, in Huíla, Francisco Chocolate, on the sidelines of a consultation meeting with businesspeople, held by the president of the board of directors of AGT, José Leiria.

The leader made it known that these members who have their accounts blocked are unable to carry out any other economic activity, given the limitations imposed on them this year, due to debts accumulated since the time of the pandemic, with debts ranging from four to 26 million kwanzas..

He highlighted that the main reason for non-compliance was the Covid-19 pandemic, a period in which industrial companies did not operate and, therefore, did not submit tax returns.

He mentioned that due to the seizure, businesspeople are unable to import, because to do so they must present a non-debtor certificate issued by the AGT, a situation that is “asphyxiating” the class.

In turn, the president of the Huíla Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Association (AAPCIL), Paulo Gaspar, said that the business class is going through a “very difficult” moment, as the AGT is charging fines up to 2012.

“The payment of fines and interest in installments is legitimate, instead of seizing accounts, this is killing the entrepreneur in the first place, which is why we ask that you create mechanisms for discussion and extension of deadlines, so that the business class has the ability to pay little by little”, he stressed.

In response, AGT’s PCA, José Leiria, said that businesspeople with seized accounts should write to the institution requesting payment of the debt in installments, information already passed to the Lubango Tax Office, in order to provide a response quickly, once the first installment has been paid, the attachment is lifted.

He reinforced that the institution will now carry out a survey of all businesspeople in this situation, but generally speaking, for those who request a deferral of their gradual payment, in relation to the tax debt, there is a commitment from AGT to accept the installments.

He made it known that the new dynamics of AGT, the result of technological development, involves greater assertiveness in controlling tax obligations on the part of taxpayers.
