African Union Praises Quality of Reports Submitted by the Country

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Democratic Congolese Rémy Ngoy Lumbu, praised Angola for the quality of the reports presented at the 81st Ordinary Session of that body, which has been taking place since 17 October and ends on 6 November, in Banjul, Gambia.

Angola presented, on Thursday, the periodic reports on the implementation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Additional Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), and the African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention).

On Friday, the Angolan delegation was called to respond to questions raised by the African Commission regarding the reports presented and, for the quality of the responses and statistics provided, which reflect the country’s progress and commitment to the protection and promotion of Human Rights, received praise from the President of the Commission.

The documents presented by Angola highlighted the development of legislative, political and institutional measures, in addition to the National Human Rights Strategy. Rémy Ngoy Lumbu also highlighted that Angola is one of the few African countries that have fulfilled all their obligations to the Commission and praised the good cooperation between the Angolan State and the regional Human Rights institution.

During the dialogue between the Angolan representatives and the members of the Commission, an intervention by the State was made, followed by questions from the members of the Commission, responses from the State and the adoption of a final report containing considerations and recommendations to be implemented.

The Angolan delegation is led by the Minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, Ana Paula Silva de Sacramento Neto, and accompanied by senior officials, including the Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Cardoso Januário, and the Secretary of State for Pre-school and Primary Education, Francisco Pacheco.
