Afrikagrupperna reiterates funding to ADRA

Africa-Press – Angola. The Swedish non-governmental organization (NGO) Afrikagrupperna (Groups Africa Sweden) intends to continue financing social projects of the Action for Environmental and Rural Development (ADRA) in Angola, within the framework of the institutional partnership existing for over ten years.

The intention was expressed, Saturday, by the Afrikagrupperna programming officer for the Southern Africa region, Telma Alegre, in statements to the press, at the end of the meeting she had with the direction of ADRA antenna Huambo.

Telma Alegre, who headed a project monitoring delegation for the Swedish NGO, which evaluated the actions of its Angolan counterpart, informed that, annually, the institution has provided close to five million Swedish krona, equivalent to more than 230 million kwanzas.

He explained that the funding, which has been distributed to the central directorate of ADRA and to the branches in Benguela and Huíla, is part of the support that Afrikagrupperna has given to organizations and civil movements in five countries in Southern Africa, with a view to strengthening their institutional capacity.

According to the source, there is no deadline for the end of the financial agreement with the Angolan organization, although there is a desire to continue and that everything will depend on the development of the institutional partnership.

“We will continue to finance and we will not stop or change the way we support”, he assured.

To this end, he informed that, at the moment, all the necessary administrative procedures are being processed between the two institutions for the disbursement of the amount for the year 2023.

As for the monitoring visit, he said that the good implementation of the projects benefiting the communities was verified, which justifies the financing that has been provided and satisfies his organization.

In turn, the director of ADRA antenna Huambo, Cidália Gomes, said that although the province does not directly benefit from the funding, its impact is positive, taking into account the financial allocations that have been allocated from the central Directorate, for the implementation of its action plan.

In addition to Huambo, the Afrikagrupperna monitoring team also traveled to the provinces of Huíla, Luanda and Malanje.

Afrikagrupperna (Swedish Africa Groups) is a Swedish non-profit organization, founded in 1974, with the aim of supporting partners in southern Africa and working with information and advocacy in Sweden and Europe.

In Africa, the NGO supports civil society organizations and movements in the countries of Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe, in the execution of their strategic plans for the benefit of the communities.
