Africa-Press – Angola. “We must promote courage where there is fear, promote agreement where there is conflict, and inspire hope where there is despair.” – Nelson Mandela
Following on from my previous post, and after President João Lourenço spoke, I’ll say he was right to speak, and spoke better than anyone could have expected. I didn’t think—at least not as directly as he likes to do—that he blamed the opposition, and Adalberto in particular, for the “vandalism” of the acts we witnessed, with our hearts in our hearts, but under circumstances that, as I’ve said, were perfectly expected.
What I want to say here, as I and many others believe, is that the good measures suggested as a palliative, even if they referred at least once to the most immediate cause of the “vandalism” which is hunger, will not erase, even slightly, the root of a problem that will persist: the Angolan State must be returned to the Angolan People, through free, fair and transparent elections, ensuring that everyone, winners and losers, are exonerated of what happened in the past.
Let’s break out of the vicious cycle of revenge and counter-revenge and build a new Angola, with commitment and reliable publicity, starting now and consolidating in the next elections in 2027.
With so many powers handed over to the President of the Republic, in such a senseless way, only the current holder of that office can prevent radical solutions that – whether we like it or not, are being suggested on social media and other spaces – from being attempted to worsen our persistent misfortunes.
Unless the President, with or without his knowledge, is being pushed by someone or some force that wants to take advantage of these “old” misfortunes of ours.
So, investigate, it smells like that.
