Africa-Press – Angola. The energy sector action plan 2023-2027, aligned with the 2050 long-term agenda, foresees the continued diversification of the energy mix in order to incorporate at least 72 percent renewable energy.

This information was provided this Wednesday, in Abu Dhabi, by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, when he spoke at the 14th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency, in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the official, of the 72% of renewable energy, 1.2 GW will be from solar sources, by the year 2027 and, with this, it is expected to reach an electrification rate of 50%, in a total investment of around 12 thousand million US Dollars.

In this case, he continued, financial institutions and the private sector are called upon to play a decisive role.

According to a press, the project for the construction of photovoltaic solar parks is expected to be completed in the next few years, contributing to an increase in the installed capacity of solar photovoltaic generation by 584.50 MW injected into the grid and 90 MWh with 25 MWh of battery storage.

More recently, two electrification projects were approved and are in effect in the Eastern and Southern provinces of Angola, which will provide access to electricity for more than six million inhabitants in 132 locations.

These solutions mainly include solar systems with accumulators, their respective distribution networks, as well as individual solar systems, which will shorten the construction time of infrastructures.

Angola participates in the 14th International Renewable Energy Assembly in which leaders from several member states are discussing policies, strategies and projects to boost the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy matrix.

The event, which runs until Thursday (18), is discussing, among other topics, “Emerging technologies”, “investments”, “regulatory policies” and “international cooperation to face the challenges of the energy transition”.
