Africa-Press – Angola. The agricultural potential implemented by the then Companhia de Diamantes de Angola (Diamang), in Lunda-Norte, in 1930, and which employed workers outside the mining industry, ceased to be explored in 1980, due to lack of financial sustainability, combined with the of the armed conflict in the region.

The former agricultural technician of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock at Diamang and former manager of cattle breeding at the “Cacanda” farm, Luís Munana, suggested that the provincial government work with agricultural entrepreneurs, farmers and local agri-livestock associations, with a view to identify foreign investors (neighboring countries, Brazil, Portugal and Spain) that dominate tropical crops to establish public-private partnerships.

For him, investors with financial and technical capacity should be attracted, with a view to helping to introduce a new management model for medium and large agricultural and livestock projects.

Luís Munana stressed that in order to make up for “lost” time, the Government must create a law so that mining companies, especially Endiama, can invest “compulsorily” in the socio-economic component, with the introduction into their projects of programs of sustainable agricultural development.
