Africa-Press – Angola. 219,870 tonnes of various products were harvested in the 2022 agricultural campaign in Namibe province, 32,508 more than the previous year.
Thursday, the director of the Provincial Office for Agriculture and Forestry, Zonza Puissa, said that in the previous year the agricultural sector in the province produced 187,362 tons, without however having justified the cause of the increase in production.
The person in charge also informed that of the total production, 159 thousand 433.6 tons are of vegetables, corresponding to 72.5% of the crop, stressing that the productive process counted on the involvement of 46 thousand 570 peasant families, who were equipped with new cultivation techniques that enabled them to practice good production, from the point of view of quantitative and qualitative food security.
He stressed that in the period under review 23,744 hectares were prepared and 20,711 were cultivated, which represented 87.23% of the projected amount.
In the livestock field, Zonza Puissa stressed that in this period, 1,676 head of cattle, 912 head of pigs and 708 head of goats were slaughtered, while the aviaries registered a production of 59 million, 456 thousand, 615 eggs.
He also underlined that in order to improve production indicators, the Provincial Government develops agricultural promotion programmes, provides work means to producers and facilitates access to financing lines for production.
