Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Dundo customs delegation, assigned to the 7th tributary region, João António, suggested the closure of some fuel filling stations in Lunda Norte, as they promote fuel smuggling in the district.

Speaking to the press, regarding the phenomenon in Lunda Norte, the official made it known that the institution, within the scope of its inspection actions, had identified some fueling stations, which serve customers at dawn and in cans.

He said that the result of the inspection has already been sent to Organs related bodies, so that measures can be taken.

He denounced the tendency to install some fuel pumps along the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo, which could encourage the smuggling of oil derivatives.

“We identified some fuel supply stations whose location is not justified and, we concluded that their objective is to encourage smuggling, therefore, we appeal to Organs related bodies, in the sense of closing them”, he stressed.

He said that in 2022, the customs delegation seized a total of 73,441 liters of fuel, with 22,815 of diesel and 50,626 of gasoline, at various border posts.

He highlighted that fuel smuggling has been one of the causes in the reduction of tax revenues along the borders.

The province of Lunda Norte shares with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 770 kilometers of land and river border.
