Ambassador considers excellent relations with Zambia

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Zambia, Albino Malungo, considered, in Lusaka, the cooperative relations between the two countries to be excellent.

Speaking to the Angolan press, on the sidelines of the activities that preceded the extraordinary SADC summit, which Zambia hosts today, the diplomat highlighted, among other factors, the importance of the Lobito Corridor for the economic development of these two states and the southern region of continent in general.

He said that economic and political cooperation is so dynamic, with good prospects, especially in recent times, with the country under the leadership of President João Lourenço, and expressed the desire for greater growth in various areas, including the private sector.

He mentioned that there is a community in Zambia with around 120 thousand Angolans, some former refugees, who contribute to the country’s economy.

Albino Malungo stressed that Zambia is essentially a country of mining and agricultural production, products that can be exported through this railway area, and the Zambian business class looks at the Lobito Corridor with great expectations.

“There is visa exemption, which is a big step, and I invite Angolans to come here, in this stable market, with good agricultural experiences. I challenge private entrepreneurs in the education sector”, he said, emphasizing that there is no period, among the more than 40 years of cooperation, as dynamic as today.

The ambassador also highlighted the importance of the air connection between Angola and Zambia, having advanced the existence of contacts, at an advanced stage, on the part of the Transport ministries, with a view to implementing flights between the respective countries on a regular basis, as soon as possible..

Angola and Zambia develop fairly regular cooperation relations, within the framework established by the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, signed in 1979.

Last year they reinforced bilateral cooperation, with the signing of six legal instruments, as part of the state visit of the Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, including five memoranda of understanding and one agreement.
