Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Italy, Fátima Jardim, described, this Wednesday, the Pope emeritus Benedict XVI “a symbol of stability and defense of the values ​​of the Catholic Church”.

When writing in the book of condolences, opened at the Apostolic Nunciature, the Angolan diplomat also mentioned that Benedict XVI, who died on 31 December last, was the voice of the poorest and most unprotected.

A note from the Angolan Embassy in Italy, which press had access to, said the late Pope defended the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation.

In the message, Ambassador Fatima Jardim recognizes and remembers Pope Benedict XVI, “for his hard work, wise theological preparation and devotion throughout his eight years of Pontificate”.

“We surrender with deep devotion (…) to the memory of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI”, wrote the diplomat who recalled the visit made by Pope Benedict VXI to Angola, in March 2009.

On the occasion, the Angolan representative in Italy addressed wishes of solidarity and condolences to the family, the Catholic Church, the Government of the Holy See, heartfelt condolences.

The funeral of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will be presided over by Pope Francis, in Saint Peter’s Square, Vatican City, Thursday, January 5, 2023.
