The ambassadors of the CPLP Member States accredited in Angola established, yesterday, in Luanda, the mechanisms for the meeting of the Ministers of Sea Affairs of the Community, taking into account the concerns with the protection and conservation of the oceans, the sustainable exploitation of ocean resources , the prevention and elimination of marine pollution and the basic principles of the blue economy.
The Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) has safety concerns at sea, due to the fear that operators have been subjected to. During his speech, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad, Domingos Vieira Lopes, explained that the ambassadors’ meeting defined the topics to be addressed at the V Meeting of CPLP Ministers of the Sea, to be held this month. , in Luanda.
The Secretary of State for Fisheries, Esperança Costa, said that relations between Member States, in the field of the oceans, must fundamentally pass through the systematic search for sources of funding, from regional and international institutions. This search, she continued, should constitute a platform to increase the possibility of countries’ access to investment funds, necessary for the transition to the blue economy.
The Portuguese ambassador accredited to Angola, Francisco Alegre Duarte, highlighted the fact that the CPLP member states have a large coastal domain, and, in this sense, Angola can be a regional maritime power, a condition, in fact, that allows it to produce the most of its sea oil.
