Africa-Press – Angola. The second and last phase of the Seventh Decoration Ceremony in the ambit of the 50th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Angola, to be marked on Nov 11, started this Saturday, in Luanda, under the chairmanship of President João Lourenço.

In the first phase, that happened Friday (24), the Head of State awarded over 300 medals to various individuals, out of the announced 774 people to be distinguished, including some foreign personalities.

The initiative is framed in the ambit of Law N. 2/25 of March 18th, which establishes the Commemorative Medal of the 50th Anniversary of Angola’s Independence, which aims to honour citizens and institutions that, throughout history, have distinguished themselves through dedication, bravery, and service to the Angolan Nation.

This seventh phase of decorations is also paying homage to the signing of the Peace and National Reconciliation Accords in April 04, 2002, a landmark in Angola’s unity and stability process.

The Head of State’s gesture reflects recognition of the contributions of women and men who, at different points in the country’s history, helped build independence, consolidate peace, and drive the country’s sustainable development.

The list also includes journalists Santos Rosa, Feliciana Aragão, Isaías Afonso, Africano Neto, Cabingano Manuel, as well as international figures such as Igor Sechin (Russia), Pierre Victor Mpoyo (DRC), and the Mozambican nationalist, Marcelino dos Santos.
