Africa-Press – Angola. Angola has the conditions to aspire to become the “meeting hub” of the African continent, the Minister of Tourism, Márcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel, said on Tuesday, in Dubai.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the World Government Summit, taking place from the 3rd to the 5th of February, in Dubai, Márcio Daniel stated that the Angolan event tourism strategy aims to achieve this goal.
“I think we are capable of aspiring to be the continent’s meeting room. And our event tourism strategy will involve exactly that”, stated the government official.
As part of this strategy, he announced, for the coming months, the creation of the “Angola Convention Bureau”, a structure that will be available to attract as many events as possible to Angola.
The idea is to ensure that structures such as the future Chicala Convention Center, currently under construction, do not “lie in the dust”, because, he asked, “if there are no events, what is the point of having the Convention Center?”.
“This is done professionally. There are teams dedicated to attracting as many events as possible to Angola and making the future Convention Center profitable”, he said.
From the governor’s perspective, this was one of the lessons learned from the year in which the country completed 50 years of Independence, “because we received many events, the economy became dynamic, (with) direct and indirect jobs created”.
“The lesson is that in event tourism we will certainly have a good line of work to develop our destination”, he predicted.
