Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Armenia expressed, this Friday morning, in Antalya, their desire to establish legal mechanisms that facilitate bilateral exchange, including the signing of memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements.The desire was expressed during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and his counterpart from the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, on the sidelines of the 4th Edition of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, in Turkey.
According to a statement from MIREX, the meeting also served as an opportunity for the two heads of diplomacy to discuss various aspects of political, diplomatic and economic life, as well as issues on the international agenda, with a focus on deepening bilateral relations between Angola and Armenia.
“Among the issues discussed were the need to promote reciprocal visits at the highest level, the strengthening of political and diplomatic dialogue and the identification of priority sectors for future cooperation,” the statement highlights.
On the occasion, Minister Téte António shared Angola’s ongoing efforts as acting President of the African Union, highlighting the country’s commitment to promoting peace, security, regional integration and sustainable development on the African continent.
In turn, Ararat Mirzoyan expressed his appreciation for Angola’s role on the international stage and encouraged the strengthening of dialogue between Africa and the South Caucasus.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and Armenia were officially established on 3 October 1994. Since then, the two countries have maintained discreet cooperation, but with recent signs of revitalization.
In the economic sphere, available data on the volume of bilateral trade demonstrate an increasing trend in Angolan imports from Armenia.
In 2022, imports reached US$6.03 million, falling to US$3.39 million in 2023.
However, a significant increase was recorded in 2024, with an import volume worth US$25.84 million, which reveals new dynamism in the trade area.
