The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, pointed out, this Sunday, in Luanda, the need for Angola and Cape Verde to reinforce the exchange of experiences in the most varied domains, in particular in the parliamentary field, taking advantage of the language and the common history between the two countries.

Speaking at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, before traveling to this archipelago, the parliamentary leader informed that the agenda includes the reinforcement of the bilateral cooperation agreement that establishes several parameters on the functioning of the institutions and their modernization.

“The two parliaments will exchange experiences and debate many issues, given the fact that they are Portuguese-speaking and Atlantic countries and share many aspects in common”, highlighted Carolina Cerqueira.

On the occasion, the president of the National Assembly considered the existing bilateral relations between the two parliaments to be “excellent and good”, which will be reinforced by the heterogeneous delegation that traveled, as a demonstration of the diversity of ideas of the Angolan parliament.

In addition to the AN leader, the national parliamentary entourage includes MPs Mário Pinto de Andrade (MPLA), Liberty Chiyaka (Unita), Florbela Malaquias (PHA), the first secretary of the AN board, Manuel Dembo, senior staff and employees of the institution. .

During the three days, the Angolan delegation, among other actions, will participate in the Solemn session in the National Assembly of Cape Verde, will visit the Tarrafal Prison, and will hold meetings with the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the President of the local Parliament .

Within the framework of increasing bilateral relations, the program also provides for an extended meeting between the two parliaments and a visit to the city of Santa Catarina.

As part of the parliamentary diplomacy that she has been maintaining with some countries, in April, Carolina Cerqueira was in the Kingdom of Morocco, where she signed an agreement to reinforce cooperation, for the exchange of experience in the most varied fields.

It should be recalled that the parliaments of both countries have cooperated through Angola-Cape Verde Friendship Groups.
