Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Côte d’Ivoire initialed this Monday, in Luanda, a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations.

The Memorandum was signed by the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and her counterpart from Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, on the sidelines of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), which will be officially opened in the Angolan capital.

Speaking to the press, the leader of the Côte d’Ivoire parliament said that the signing of the Memorandum will allow the two parliaments to play a catalytic role in the implementation of commercial, cultural and economic relations, to boost the Luanda-Abidjan axis and vice-versa. verse.

According to the parliamentarian, the initiative will allow for closer ties between the two countries and peoples.

“We are two countries that are at a high level in Africa. The president of the Angolan Parliament, and I myself, are convinced that the economic, political and commercial reinforcement of the Luanda-Abidjan axis will be beneficial for both peoples and countries”, he highlighted.

The leader of the Ivorian Parliament highlighted, on the other hand, “the good relations that exist between the Presidents of Angola, João Lourenço, and of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara.

Adama Bictogo praised the dynamic leadership that the two Heads of State have established in their respective countries for the good of both peoples.

The Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, which has had diplomatic relations with Angola for 42 years, saw its independence from France proclaimed on August 7, 1960.

Angola and Serbia strengthen cooperation

Also this Monday, Carolina Cerqueira received, in an audience, the vice-president of the Parliament of Serbia, Snezana Paunov, with whom she discussed the deepening of relations between the two parliaments.

Snezana Paunov, who highlighted the historical and good relations between the two countries, revealed that she shared some ideas with her interlocutor to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas.

“Serbia and Angola are two friendly countries with historical relations that have helped each other, but there is always room for us to increasingly improve our cooperation”, he expressed.

The republics of Angola and Serbia established political, diplomatic and cooperative, technical-scientific and cultural relations in April 1977.

Currently, these relations are cordial and have been consolidated with the signing of more than 10 bilateral agreements and visits by several Angolan delegations to Belgrade, between 2020 and 2023.

Both countries updated the first legal instrument signed in 1977, called the General Agreement on Economic and Technical-Scientific Cooperation, a base document for signing several sectoral legal instruments.
