Africa-Press – Angola. Egypt will increase the number of its companies operating in Angola in the infrastructure sector, ambassador Mohamed Safwat said this Wednesday in Luanda.

The diplomat, who was speaking to the press after a meeting with the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, announced the visit of his country’s Housing Minister to Angola, from the 8th to the 14th of this month, in response to an invitation letter from the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos.

He made it known that his country is working closely with the Government of Angola to increase the number of Egyptian companies in Angola in the field of infrastructure.

The Egyptian ambassador expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries, which since 2016 has seen an increase in the volume of business from Egypt to Angola, especially from Egyptian companies represented in the country in the infrastructure sector.

He highlighted the presence of Egyptian businesspeople who have lived in Angola for decades “who have effectively contributed to the development of both countries in areas such as the metallurgical and petrochemical industries”.

The diplomat predicted the strengthening of relations between African countries, as “within the continent we have resources so that we can cooperate among ourselves, within the framework of the bases created by the African Union (AU) through regional and bilateral agreements”.

The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, made a state visit to Angola in June this year, in the post-Covid-19 period, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and, on the occasion, invited his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, also visit Egypt, on a date to be agreed through diplomatic channels.

The Egyptian ambassador accredited in Angola hopes that President João Lourenço’s visit to his country can take place as soon as possible, to increasingly strengthen bilateral relations.

Interparliamentary Cooperation

During the meeting with Carolina Cerqueira, issues relating to parliamentary diplomacy were also raised, as well as the invitation made to representatives of the Egyptian parliament to participate in the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), taking place in the Angolan capital, Luanda, next October.

The ambassador assured that Egypt will be strongly represented in this activity and wished Angola success in organizing the magnificent event.

Angola has created the technical, material and human conditions to host, from the 23rd to the 27th of October, the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), according to information provided by a source from the organizing committee.

Mohamed Safwat, at the end of his mission, after four years of diplomatic exercise in Angola, said he was very satisfied with the work he carried out during these four years in the country.

Angola-Egypt Cooperation

Political-diplomatic cooperation relations between both countries were formalized on March 26, 1987, through the signing, in Luanda, of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

There is great interest on the part of Angola and Egypt in increasing cooperation in areas such as Economy, Commerce and Industry, Education, Higher Education and Technical-Vocational Training, Energy and Water, Banking and Finance, Agriculture and Fisheries.

The two countries are also engaged in preparing the first session of the Bilateral Commission, which should evaluate cooperation and establish the process of implementing the legal instruments in force.

Egyptian companies were among the first to provide “important support” to the Angolan Executive’s Program to combat Covid-19, having provided various biosafety equipment, hospital consumables and a value of two hundred (200) million kwanzas.

Egypt is located in the northern region of the African continent, bordered by Sudan to the South, Libya to the West, the Mediterranean Sea to the North and the Red Sea to the East.

Angola and the Netherlands strengthen relations

Also this Wednesday, Carolina Cerqueira received, in audience, the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands accredited in Angola, Tsjeard Roelf Hoekstra, with whom she reviewed the inter-parliamentary and economic relations between the two States.

The diplomat emphasized that Angola and the Netherlands “are ideal partners in the fields of agriculture, logistics and renewable energy.

He highlighted the business mission, organized by his embassy, in which Angolan businesspeople from the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Bié, Huambo and Cuanza Norte had the opportunity to visit this European country for business.

The diplomat, who praised Angola’s agricultural potential, said there were many opportunities to reinforce tropical fruit production opportunities in Angola to be exported to his country. The Netherlands is the largest distributor of tropical fruits in Europe.

The Netherlands has a fruit import market valued at 16 billion euros per year. They are a country in Western Europe, with Amsterdam as its capital.

Previously, they were known as Holland and are bathed by the North Sea and bordered by Belgium and Germany.
