Angola and Egypt Sign Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Defense

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Egypt signed, on Wednesday, a bilateral agreement in the field of Defense, with a view to relaunching and strengthening cooperation in terms of defense and security between the two countries.The Angolan Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos, who has been in Egypt since Monday for a working visit, and his Egyptian counterpart, General Abdel Majeed Saqr, signed the agreement.

In Cairo, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos’ agenda included different moments, including visits to military enterprises and institutions.

The Angolan leader held a meeting with the Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed Mohamed Salah El-Din Mustafa, who gave him a presentation on military products, including weapons.

Last year, the Republics of Angola and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed two memoranda of understanding in Luanda, as part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries, which have existed since 1976.

The two countries agreed to cooperate on matters of Security and Public Order and the Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Assistance on Groundwater. There is a General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Angola and Egypt.

There is also great interest from both countries in increasing cooperation in areas such as Economy, Trade and Industry, Education, Higher Education and Technical-professional Training, Energy and Water, Banking and Finance, Agriculture and Fisheries.

The ministerial agenda, which includes the Angolan ambassador to Egypt, Nelson Cosme, the Secretary of State for the Defence Industry, General Afonso Neto, the National Director of Defence Policy, Lieutenant General Paulo Francisco, and the Diplomatic Advisor to the Minister of

National Defense, Brigadier Silvestre Gustavo, in addition to the Defense Attaché in Cairo, Colonel José Pedro Mugimbo, reserved other different moments, including visits to the factory for developed industries and to the vehicle department of the engineering industries complex.

The agenda was also filled with a visit to the monument of the late President Anwar Al-Sadat – the third Egyptian statesman who restored the multi-party system to the Arab country.
