Africa-Press – Angola. The relaunch of bilateral cooperation between Angola and Ethiopia was at the center of a meeting held in the early afternoon of this Monday, in Addis Ababa, between Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Demeke Mekonnen Hassen, Deputy Prime Minister. and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that, during the meeting, the two interlocutors considered that it was time for Angola and Ethiopia to move towards a more dynamic and diversified bilateral economic cooperation, with the signing of legal instruments already negotiated between the parties.

The two counterparts are of the opinion that the Governments of both countries should work together in order to expand cooperation in the most varied areas, as well as in the promotion of direct investments between Angolan and Ethiopian businessmen.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, ministers Téte António and Demeke Mekonnen Hassen also addressed the peace and security situation in Africa, within the scope of the African Union’s strategy to silence the weapons in the birthplace continent.

In this regard, the Ethiopian minister praised the role played by Angola in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in Africa, particularly as acting president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), and its diplomatic initiatives in the Central African Republic. , as well as mediating the political crisis between DR Congo and Rwanda.

Demeke Mekonnen Hassen congratulated the appointment of João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, as Champion of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, which took place at the Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes in Government, held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

Relations between Angola and Ethiopia are historical and friendly, animated by the defense of multilateralism in solving global problems and of pan-Africanism in achieving the “Africa We Want” on the basis of the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

In the last decades, the economic development potential of both countries has been emerging as a driving force capable of promoting a more comprehensive bilateral cooperation and with an opportunity for investment and partnerships in key areas such as Aviation, Oil and Gas, Mining, Telecommunications, Coffee, Tourism, Health, Culture, Sports and Financial Services.

On the basis of recent bilateral discussions, the parties have identified areas that could enhance mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.

Minister Téte António is on a tour of some African countries, as a special envoy of the President of the Republic of Angola, having already met, so far, with Hage Gottfried Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, and Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya.

On these trips, Téte António is accompanied by ambassador Miguel César Domingos Bembe, director for Africa, the Middle East and Regional Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by Francisco José da Cruz, ambassador of Angola to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union and of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, as well as senior officials from the relevant Ministry.
