Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço and his counterpart Draupadi Murmu met privately at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Palace in New Delhi, the capital of the Republic of India. The visit by the Angolan Head of State to the official residence of the Indian President marks one of the highlights of the official visit that the Angolan statesman has been making since yesterday to the land of Mahatma Gandhi.

During the meeting between the Presidents of Angola and India, the state of cooperation, which dates back to 1979, will be assessed. At a later stage, João Lourenço and the Head of the Indian Government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will lead the talks between the two ministerial delegations, at which time several legal instruments are expected to be signed.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António, President João Lourenço first met with his Indian counterpart and then the work will take place during the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, having assured that the delegationl establish negotiations and sign cooperation agreements in the areas of Agriculture, Health and Culture.“As you know, health is one of the vectors of the Indian economy and also of Indian economic diplomacy, taking into account not only the fact that this country is called the ‘pharmacy of the world’, but also because it has extraordinary medical and technological conditions, including areas as sensitive as new technologies”, explained the minister.

Téte António highlights the importance of cooperationTeté António also said that “if we look at Silicon Valley in the United States of America, which is very well-known, the critical mass that worked there was India”, stressing that this had a major impact on the Asian country’s current development in the New Technologies sector.

“Angola would like to take advantage of all these opportunities”, stressed the head of Angolan diplomacy.

Teté António also confirmed that President João Lourenço held these negotiations, but there also was a trip to the Business Forum on the last day of the state visit, during which he will deliver the opening speech to an audience of Angolan and Indian businesspeople.

The importance of cooperation with India, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, arises from the mutual knowledge between the two countries, emphasising that Angolans are getting to know Indians better and vice versa.“This means that it will impact the level of interest and concrete actions that can leverage our economies. We need them, just as they need us. Today, we have a transformation agenda for our country, with regard to economic diversification, which finds many solutions here in India,” he stressed.

According to the head of Angolan diplomacy, Angola’s biggest challenge is that the dynamics of relations from now on will be different, with a tendency to always improve. Although the two countries share a good relationship, Téte António admitted that they always have the ambition to improve it even further.

“And in a country like ours, we have every reason to always be much more ambitious, with regard to the objectives we want to achieve,” he stressed.
