Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the Maldives Islands analyzed, on Friday, the increase in cooperation relations in the political, diplomatic, economic and commercial areas.

Bilateral cooperation was addressed, in a telephone conversation, by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Islands, Abdullah Sharid.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the officials also spoke of the intention of that country in the Indian Ocean to become a full member of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP).

Minister Abdullah Sharid requested Angola’s support for this candidacy of the Maldives Islands.

Abdullah Sharid was in Angola from the 11th to the 14th of May last, as president of the 76th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, having, on the occasion, traveled to the province of Cunene to verify the functioning of the Cafu canal (transfer system of water from the Cunene River) and the implementation of the Government’s program in relation to combating desertification and drought in the south of the country.

In Luanda, he visited the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, where he interacted with students on issues related to peace and security, climate change and United Nations reform.
