Africa-Press – Angola. The national teams of Angola and South Africa will face each other on Monday at 6 pm, in a match corresponding to the first round of Group B of the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), based in Morocco, until January 18, 2026.

The two representatives from the southern region have different histories, with the Angolans making their tenth appearance against their opponent’s twelve.

The Angolans will face an opponent who has already beaten CAN once (1996), when they organized the competition.

In the last edition played in Cotè‚ d`Ivoire, the South Africans were in third place, while Angola was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

For the third time, the two teams play in the first round, the first time taking place at CAN 98, in Burkina Faso, with a 1-1 draw and the second time in 2008 in Ghana, which resulted in a new draw this time without goals.

It should be remembered that in Angola’s debut at the biggest summit in African football, in 1996, the Palancas Negras lost to Bafana Bafana, in the second round, by 1-0.

In the second round of this championship in Morocco, the Angolans will face the similar Zimbabwe on the 26th and close the preliminary phase, facing Egypt.
