Africa-Press – Angola. Angola took over, this Thursday, the rotating presidency of the Meeting of Labor Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
According to the CPLP statutes, the term of office of the said presidency lasts for two years.
The protocol was carried out during the fifteenth meeting of the organization, in the province of Benguela, in the presence of its Executive Secretary, Manuel Lapão.
During the passing of testimony, the Minister of State, Family, Inclusion and Social Development of Cape Verde, Fernando Elisio Freire, said that his country had worked hard to be able to comply with the objectives set, despite his presidency having been troubled by Covid-19, which caused certain limitations.
In a nutshell, the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Teresa Rodrigues Dias, assured that Angola will commit itself in order to honor the commitment.
Participants ‘ reactions
On the sidelines of the event, the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal, Ana Mendes Godinho, said that the organization is working to find solutions to protect the populations of the CPLP.
“We have a mobility agreement which is a great achievement because issues such as training and social security are being resolved”, he considered.
As for child labor, he spoke of his country’s experience, where a strong campaign had been launched to eradicate it.
“At the moment it is no longer a problem in Portugal and we are increasingly making efforts so that the work is formally recognized”, he said.
According to her, people must enter the formal economy to be included in social security, in order to ensure that they are protected when they are unemployed, retired or sick.
“It is a movement that everyone has to join so that we are a more solidary and fairer society”, considers the minister.
On his turn, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment of Brazil, Francisco Macena da Silva, considered the opening of an International Labor Organization (ILO) office in Angola a very important achievement of this meeting, because, in his view, will facilitate the search for solutions for the processes discussed in the organization.
Regarding the unemployment rate, he considered it a “world scourge”, but that the CPLP is working on the perspective that each country that is more advanced can pass on its experience to the others.
“I think we have a good purpose and progress and certainly the cooperation between us will solve the problem of unemployment,” he said.
The Deputy Minister of Labour, Employment Promotion and Social Security of Equatorial Guinea, Manuel Cristobal Morgades Ichaca, informed that his country’s integration into the community is in good progress.
“We already have centers for the implementation of the Portuguese language, as well as a television channel that shows the news in Portuguese”, he explained.
He also said that, although each country has its specificity, his is aligned with the partners to overcome common challenges.
At the end of the meeting, the so-called “Declaration of Benguela” was produced, which mirrors the agreements initialed by the CPLP Ministers of Labour.
