Africa-Press – Angola. The first lady of Angola, Ana Dias Lourenço, is among those participating in the 28th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OPDAD), opened this Saturday , in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting, which ends this Sunday, takes place on the sidelines of the 37th African Union (AU) summit under the motto “Educate her and transform Africa, improving access to health and education for African women and girls in the 21st century ”.

At its opening, the session chaired by the vice-president of OPDAD and first lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, observed a minute of silence in honor of the late head of state of Namibia, Hage Geingob, whose wife He was president of the organization until his death, on February 4, 2024.

For this Sunday, technical sessions and presentations of position documents on the #We Are Equal campaign, among other issues, are scheduled.

The first ladies also participated in the opening session of the 37th ordinary AU summit, together with the Presidents of the Member States.

OPDAD aims to strengthen collaboration among its members to promote Africa’s integration and growth.

Originally formed as the Organization of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS, OPDAD is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 2002 by 37 African first ladies.

The first lady of Angola has been in Addis Ababa since Friday, accompanying President João Lourenço, who is participating in the 37th AU summit, also taking place from 17 to 18 February, in the Ethiopian capital.
