Africa-Press – Angola. Angola could be the turning point for Uruguayan investments in southern Africa and some products from this region should be sold in that South American country.

The intention was recorded in the meeting that the delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Secretary of State Domingos Vieira Lopes, held this Wednesday with officials from the Uruguay/Africa chamber of commerce.

The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, began by giving an overview of the country’s reality, launching a challenge to the Uruguayan business community to invest capital on national soil and invest in participation in investment fairs held in Angola.

He reinforced the existence of a free zone in Angola for the implementation of foreign investments, as well as recalling that Uruguay is part of the countries with the green light to enter the national territory, for a period of 90 days, without the need to obtain a visa.

Domingos Vieira Lopes also made, during the meeting, clarifications about the General Cooperation Agreement between Angola and Uruguay.

The Angolan ambassador to Argentina, Azevedo Xavier Francisco, took the floor and encouraged the Uruguayan business community to identify areas for the intended investment, calling on the responsibility of the diplomatic mission to indicate the ways to complete the deal.

Azevedo Xavier Francisco also conveyed the Angolan government’s commitment to expanding the tourism industry on a large scale.

In turn, those responsible for the Uruguay/Africa chamber, in the person of Whashington Fernandez, executive director of the association, gladly accepted the proposals presented by the Angolan side, expressing their total willingness to make investments in Angola.

It is worth noting that the Uruguay/Africa chamber of commerce was created on November 11, 2010 by a group of Uruguayan businessmen with the support of African countries accredited in Montevideo.

Still within the program of activities, the delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo visited, this Tuesday, the facilities of the Mercosur parliament and held a courtesy meeting with the president of the institution, Fabiana Martin.

The moment was used to strengthen the dialogue between the Mercosur regional Parliament and the Republic of Angola.
