Africa-Press – Angola. The 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), taking place in October this year, in the Angolan capital, Luanda, will take place under the motto “Parliamentary Action for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.
The event will be attended by around 1,400 deputies from 172 countries and 150 presidents of parliaments from around the world, with the organizing committee creating conditions for the successful holding of the event.
The information was given to the press this Tuesday by the president of the National Monitoring Group for the UIP, Idalina Valente, at the end of a meeting with the organizing committee of the event and a multisectoral delegation, headed by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida.
The also spokesperson for the event indicated that they reviewed information that must be provided soon to all participants in the event who will be invited by the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.
He assured that invitation letters will start to be sent on the 25th of this month.
“Therefore, we needed information regarding Foreign Affairs, with regard to visas from countries with which we have agreements, from countries where we do not have consulates or representations and where visas can be requested, letters of facilitation for the granting of visas from borders, among others”, he noted.
He said that they had also approached the ministries of the Interior, Transport, Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication and Culture and Hospitality and Tourism on issues of ensuring the event, transport, accommodation, excellent communication and promotion of national culture.
Deputy Idalina Valente recognized that the media is a very important component of this event.
“Therefore, we will have to ensure that all sessions are transmitted directly to everyone. It is necessary that these conditions are created and duly tuned”, pointed out Idalina Valente, who called for the promotion of Angolan culture in this event.
The heads of various ministerial departments and the governor of the province of Luanda, Manuel Homem, participated in the meeting.
The IPU, regarded as the pioneering international political organization, has more than 170 affiliated national parliaments and 12 associated regional parliamentary assemblies.
Today, the IPU is the main parliamentary interlocutor for the United Nations and brings the voice of parliaments into UN decision-making processes, regularly presenting its resolutions in the General Assembly, issuing declarations, participating in debates and organizing parliamentary meetings on the issues main on the UN agenda.
In recognition of this important role, in 2002 the United Nations granted it permanent observer status.
